A town of Men in the valley below Erebor's Front Gate, grown prosperous as Dwarves reopened the mountain and its markets flourished on trade in metalwork and Long Lake produce. Smaug destroyed it alongside Erebor in T.A. 2770, killing Lord Girion; Bard, his descendant, rebuilt it as King of Dale after T.A. 2941.
