The Shire

The Shire · region

The homeland of the Hobbits, a fertile agricultural country in north-western Eriador between the Far Downs and the Brandywine River, settled in T.A. 1601 by Fallohide brothers Marcho and Blanco under charter from the King at Fornost. Divided into four Farthings around Michel Delving, it later gained Buckland and the Westmarch. Its Hobbits are famously insular and unaware of the wider world's perils.
